My Love Affair with Anatomicals

Earlier today I came across the website of a lovely little brand called Anatomicals. Being the grammar-nazi I am, I noticed a couple of teeny tiny typos and had no choice other than to let them know (it's a compulsion). They thanked me by ever-so-kindly sending me a few products to enjoy.

I'm no expert, but in my humble opinion Anatomicals does copy tremendously well - online, on their products, even the label on my envelope was a great read.

Anatomicals is a strong reminder that we shouldn't be so serious. Shower-time can include a joke or two, and products don't need to always play to the rules. Ultimately, words are there to communicate. We're all going to die one day - a funny shampoo bottle sort of helps face the uncertainty of death, doesn't it?

Aside from copy, one great thing about Anatomicals is that it's products aren't desperate. They don't promise to turn your life around or give you friends. They're just funny, and you have to figure out the benefits yourself, without being tricked into believing them before you've used them.

I feel a little unseasy at the thought of writing beauty reviews on my blog, but I do want to say a few words on the products I've been sent because, as life goes, once again the crème de la crème never gets the attention it deserves. I haven't had these products for very long, so I can't do an in-depth review. But here is what I do know:

stop cracking up lip balm

This has got to be the best lip balm applicator my lips have ever encountered. Seriously. It's shaped to cocoon the lips so comfortably that before they even have any product on they feel better. The formula feels like it's doing something good. It's quite thick, but it's a pleasant consistency and it leaves my lips feeling nice and nourished. I'm a lip-balm addict so this baby is going straight on my desk.

oi! you throbhead headache relief balm

Ironically, it's the laughing at the copy on this thing that gives you headache in the first place. But it smells divine. The ingredients list boasts an impressive who's who of lovely oils, including lavender oil, extra virgin olive oil, peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, mandarin oil, sandalwood oil and other lovely-sounding ingredients.

I haven't had a headache in the short time that I've owned this product, but I've been rubbing it on my temples nevertheless. I say why not make up your own uses for products - the smell of this definitely seems to soothe the nerves after a long day at work.

shower to the people every man/woman body cleanser

This smells absolutely amazing. It's one of the most refreshing, zesty shower gels I've ever tried. I imagine it'd be wonderful after a long run - imagine being the operative word. There's not much else to say, apart from the fact that it made me very clean and happy.

peachy head peach shampoo for suicidal hair

Again, this smells lovely. It's a paraben-free formula so it's not the latheriest of lathers, but I'd rather have something good for my hair with a bit more of an understated hair-washing event. It says it's a conditioning shampoo, and I think I have to agree. I used a conditioner afterwards, but my hair does feel like it's had a bit of extra care.

My little Anatomical experience has reminded me that being nice pays off. I do think it's important that our communication with companies isn't limited to complaints. So go and tell your favourite company how great they are. You never know, you might fall even deeper in love!

  4. I complained to Gu one time that they didn't make passion fruit souffle anymore and they sent me £4 of vouchers for their products! I wonder what else I could complain about? Thanks for reading my blog by the way!
